Tech or remote worker

Aliyahu est en cours de traduction. Ce profil s’affiche en anglais le temps que notre traduction soit relue, car une prestation ou une échéance mal traduite pourrait vous coûter cher.

La réponse courte

A kept remote job is the strongest pattern in the stories we gathered: those households were steady or thriving, and it let them live outside the expensive centre. That is a pattern in self-selected stories, not a guarantee. The two risks are losing that job with no Israeli network to fall back on, and money on two sides: tax, reporting and a strong shekel. Israeli high-tech employment fell in 2024 and grew only slightly in 2025, and in the recent stories local jobs came through referrals more than job boards.[1][2][3][4]

À confirmerFondé sur: All 7 podcast guests with portable income were steady or thriving; Israel Innovation Authority employment reports; job routes in 36 recent stories.

De qui il s’agit

You work in tech or in any job you can do remotely. You may keep a foreign employer or clients, look for a job in Israel’s tech sector or do both in turn.

Part des arrivées:

More than 2,000 2025 olim worked in tech and engineering, at least 8.9% of arrivals. How many keep a remote job abroad is not published; a 2025 advocacy survey found 17% of olim from the former Soviet Union working remotely for employers abroad.[5][6]

À confirmerFondé sur: Press coverage of the Ministry’s annual report; an advocacy survey without a published sample size.

Que faire, selon votre point de départ

Vous ne savez pas quel est votre niveau ? Trois questions oui ou non sur la page des profils vous le diront.

Niveau AUn revenu assuré et une réserve

Ce qui compte le plus

Treat the remote job as fragile. Build an Israeli network now, and get cross-border tax advice before your first year ends.[16][17]

À confirmerFondé sur: The tier A risk pattern in the failure analysis and register entry B16.

Calendrier

No income gap; your timeline is about Hebrew, community and building a local fallback in year one.[7][1]

À confirmerFondé sur: Remote-income households in the recent sets.

Signal d’alerte à surveiller (un seuil que nous testons encore)

The remote job ends and you have no Israeli job lead within 60 days.[16]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: Proposed threshold; not yet validated. Drawn from 23 documented failure cases.

D’abord l’aide gratuite

Niveau BL’un des deux

Ce qui compte le plus

Remote income without savings: put aside three to six months of costs before taking on a long lease, because the shekel can move against you. Savings without a job: run the search through people (meetups, hackathons, MentOlim), not job boards.[16][15][2]

À confirmerFondé sur: Failure analysis thresholds, exchange-rate data and recent job routes.

Calendrier

For a local job, plan around months 5 to 6.[13]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 2 recent stories state a time to first job.

Signal d’alerte à surveiller (un seuil que nous testons encore)

Under three months of cushion when the remote job ends, or under six months of runway at month 6 with no lead.[16]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: Proposed thresholds; not yet validated. Drawn from 23 documented failure cases.

Niveau CNi l’un ni l’autre

Ce qui compte le plus

A junior or adjacent first role is a valid move. Subsidised programs such as Gvahim’s tech track, and the olim tech networks, exist for this.[18][2]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 1 supporting story of an off-field first job plus program descriptions.

Calendrier

Expect the search to outlast the absorption basket; take the first workable job by month 4 rather than holding out.[19][16]

À confirmerFondé sur: Basket timing from NBN against a five to six month search.

Signal d’alerte à surveiller (un seuil que nous testons encore)

No interviews in your field after three months of active searching.[16]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: Proposed threshold; not yet validated. Drawn from 23 documented failure cases.

À quoi ressemble la réussite

Mois 0 à 3

  • A kept remote job means no income gap: a Moscow tech lead (2023) worked from day one from Nahariya.[7]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 1 story.

  • The local route moves through people: a Russian developer (2023) was in a startup’s office within days of meeting its founder at a hackathon.[8]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 1 story.

  • Local jobs in the recent stories came through people more than portals: hackathons, LinkedIn connections, introductions from Israeli friends and olim networks. One 2025 arrival said LinkedIn applications alone did not work.[2][9]

À confirmerFondé sur: Networking was the route in 5 of the 36 recent stories that state how a job was found; 1 states that cold applications failed.

  • Newer networks exist for this. MentOlim runs meetups where olim in tech meet mentors and recruiters one to one (Olim Matslihim, since November 2024). Reboot Startup Nation is a free nonprofit, founded in 2022, that connects olim with mentors and professional communities. Place IL runs a high-tech career program for STEM graduates from under-represented groups, new immigrants among them. The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration says it plans to let prospective olim upload a CV to its Aliyah Job platform before arrival.[10][11][12][9]

À confirmerFondé sur: Program pages and press reports, checked on 2026-10-15; their results are not independently measured, and the Aliyah Job upload is a stated plan.

Mois 3 à 12

  • In the 2 recent stories that state it, a first local professional job took about five to six months.[13][2]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 2 of 46 stories of 2023 to 2026 arrivals state a time to first job: an engineer and a high-tech hire from South Africa, 2023 or 2024 arrivals. One says only that it was within six months.

  • English-first tech jobs are reachable without fluent Hebrew (a product manager who arrived in 2022 still barely speaks it), but Hebrew still matters at the edges: some Israeli engineers do not work comfortably in English.[14][8]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 2 stories.

  • The market is tighter than before the war: Israeli high-tech employment fell about 1.2% in 2024, the first fall in at least a decade, then grew about 2.3% in 2025.[3][4]

Mois 12 à 24

  • Progression is fast when it comes: the 2023 developer went from CTO of a small startup to VP Engineering in about two years.[8]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 1 story.

  • The shekel has moved against foreign pay: it averaged about 3.03 per dollar in 2026 to date against about 3.70 in 2024, so dollar income and savings buy roughly 18% fewer shekels.[15]

Les vrais risques, et comment ça tourne mal

  • Income that does not depend on Hebrew is the clearest pattern in the stories we gathered: all 7 podcast guests (arrived 2018 to 2026) who kept a remote job, ran a portable business or transferred with an employer were steady or thriving. The struggling and returned cases lacked such income or had it only in part.[1][2]

À confirmerFondé sur: 7 of 25 podcast guests (2018 to 2026 arrivals) plus the 75-story press set. A pattern, not a proven cause: the stories are self-selected.

  • Two countries, two sets of rules: nobody in the 75 recent press stories discusses tax or remote-work compliance. It is the least-covered risk for this profile.[2][17]

À confirmerFondé sur: A finding about the evidence: 0 of 75 stories mention it.

  • Junior offers: the 2023 developer found many offers were junior-level despite five years of experience.[8]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 1 story.

  • A first try can fail on money: an IT project manager from Kyiv left Israel in 2018 over cost of living, Hebrew and low pay. He came back in 2022 with a US remote job.[20]

Tendance à confirmerFondé sur: 1 supporting story.

Aliyah does not close your file in the country you left. Tax, social security and pensions, passports and professional licences, bank accounts and money transfers (including from Russia and Belarus under sanctions) and the family you leave behind all carry on there. Some of it also changes what you receive here: what you declare to Bituach Leumi and the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration about foreign income, pensions and support from family can change the benefits they pay. We add the rules country by country as we check them, below. For everything else, check your own case with the body that pays the benefit and read your origin page.[17][21][22]

For remote workers the other country is where the salary, the employer and often the savings sit, so it touches tax, social security, banking and transfers every month.
