French olim are fanning out of Netanya into family towns

These 2025 French arrivals, more than half of them children, went to towns where rent is below Netanya's and school results beat the national rate.

Netanya's share of French olim fell from 27.4% in 2015 to 2019 to 23.0% in 2023 to 2025, and Ashdod's from 7.8% to 5.1%.

In 2025, 220 French olim were first registered in three towns: Be'er Sheva (82), Or Akiva (79) and Ariel (59). In 2023 those three towns took 15 between them. More than half of the 2025 arrivals (117) were under 18. A year earlier Hadera took 163 French olim, 84 of them under 18.

All three undercut Netanya's rent: family rent is 36% below national in Be'er Sheva, 18% below in Ariel and 14% below in Or Akiva. Their 2024 bagrut eligibility beats the national 76.6% (Be'er Sheva 87.1%, Or Akiva 93.4%, Ariel 98.5%), and all three qualify for the larger rent aid.

Most of these arrivals came in July and August (153 of the 220, including 59 of the 79 in Or Akiva in July 2025), the pattern of organised group flights. Some first addresses may be temporary or absorption arrangements, which the file cannot tell apart from a chosen home. One year is a signal, not yet a trend.

Método

Counts by first locality, origin group, year, month and age from the Ministry record-level file (agg.py). Shares are each town's part of the national French flow in each period. Rent is CBS for Be'er Sheva and the indicative nadlan.gov.il figure for Or Akiva and Ariel.
